i tested on 0.8.2.1

i'm still seeing multiple mulgara queries on successive loads of getCommentary.action and getArticleRatings.action.

perhaps it's better than it was before - can you give me an idea what to test?

i'm bringing this up on branch (0.8.2.2) to see if it's working there - perhaps i didn't patch correctly.

here's how i patched 0.8.2.1:

  • update 0.8.2.1 branch to r4918
  • mvn clean install
  • copy files from 0.8.2.1/plos/webapp/target/classes/org/plos/ to /usr/local/topaz/plosone/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/org/plos/ on dev server:
    • annotation/action/AbstractCommentaryAction.class
    • annotation/action/ListReplyAction.class
    • annotation/action/ListReplyAction$1.class
    • rating/action/GetArticleRatingsAction$1.class
    • rating/action/GetArticleRatingsAction.class

just a note that after final testing on 0.8.2.2 we're not caching the following things:

individual actions. we should be able to cache these the same we we cache individual annotations in listThread.action:

  • ratings (getArticleRatings.action doesn't cache the individual ratings)
  • trackbacks (getTrackbacks.action doesn't cache the trackbacks)
  • replies to an annotation (listThread.action only caches the root annotation)

lists of annotations. we should be able to cache these the way we cache the list of annotations that annotate an article:

  • the list of replies to an annotation (listThread.action)

(In [5575]) Added an Interceptor concept for OTM Sessions. This is similar to the Interceptor support provided by Hibernate.

This is to help Ambra resolve a number of tickets related to caching. Please see #900,#901,#829,#845,#861 (and may be more)

As part of this update, please note that the Transaction API has the following additions: 'isActive', 'wasCommitted' and 'wasRolledBack'.

(In [5576]) Basic infrastructure support for transactional cache updates and cache invalidations and also support for a journal context aware second-level cache (similar to Hibernate).

Addresses #900,#901,#829,#845,#861.

CacheManager? provides a READ_COMMITTED isolation level. Only cache that is managed by this CacheManager? now is the journal context aware object-cache for OTM. No changes to existing caches or cache-invalidations yet.

(In [5950]) Cache the average-ratings summary for an article so that mulgara is not hit every time. Note that the check to see if a user has rated an article is currently not cached. This check occurs for logged in users. Leaving that alone since caching that requires an entry per user per article - probably not worth it - but I am open. Addresses #829.

Note for cache-admin display users: Look for this in the ArticleAnnotationCache?.
